Science Fiction
Think zombies, aliens, and much, much more! In this class, students will explore classic and contemporary works of science fiction, which will transport readers to a planet light years away—or to the civilization of a far-distant past.

Debate & Public Speaking
Speaking and debating in front of an audience can be a daunting task, but with a little guidance and practice, students can gain the confidence needed to speak confidently and persuasively in all situations. This course is highly recommended for any college-bound student.
This is a required course for the Media & Public Affairs Academy.

Communications 101
Students will explore and design various forms of media. They will examine Twitter and Instagram and create blogs, advertising campaigns, and public service announcements. This is a required course for the Media & Public Affairs Academy.

Students in this course will review the grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension & writing skills necessary to do well on the SAT and ACT exams. Offered to sophomores and juniors, this course prepares students for college admissions tests and improves students’ overall writing skills.

Writers’ Workshop
Students will learn how to write essential business communication such as letters and emails. They will also learn how to evaluate and cite sources for a research paper. This course is strongly recommended for all ninth-grade students. (Tenth-grade students are encouraged to take the course if they did not take it in ninth grade.)

Introduction to Humanities Research
This course will focus on writing and research skills. Students will learn how to conduct extensive research, how to evaluate and cite sources, and how to write a well-developed research paper. This course, which is strongly recommended for all ninth-grade students, prepares students for AP Seminar in 10th grade. This is a required course for the Media & Public Affairs Academy.
